Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage
Definition
Auto insurance coverage that pays for your injuries and damages when you are hit by a driver who has no insurance (uninsured) or not enough insurance (underinsured) to cover your losses. This coverage protects you from the financial consequences of other drivers' inadequate coverage. It is required in many states.
When This Matters
A driver with no insurance runs a red light and hits your car, causing $30,000 in injuries. Your uninsured motorist coverage pays your medical bills.
