Named Insured
Definition
The person or organization specifically identified by name on the insurance policy declarations page. The named insured has the broadest rights under the policy, including the right to file claims, cancel the policy, and receive return premiums. Other individuals may have coverage under the policy but with more limited rights.
When This Matters
Your homeowners policy lists you and your spouse as named insureds. Your adult child living with you has coverage but cannot make policy changes.
