Endorsement
Definition
A written amendment to an insurance policy that adds, removes, or modifies coverage. Endorsements change the terms of the base policy and take precedence over conflicting base policy language. Common endorsements include water backup coverage, scheduled personal property, and increased dwelling limits.
When This Matters
Your standard homeowners policy excludes water backup damage. You add a water backup endorsement for an additional $50/year to cover sewer and drain backup losses.
