Collision Coverage

Definition

Auto insurance coverage that pays for damage to your vehicle when it collides with another vehicle or object, regardless of fault. Collision coverage is optional in most states but is typically required by lenders if you have a car loan or lease.

When This Matters

You hit a guardrail in icy conditions. Collision coverage pays to repair your car, minus your deductible, regardless of who was at fault.
