Extra Expense

Definition

Coverage that pays for additional costs a business incurs to continue operations after a covered property loss. Extra expense coverage differs from business interruption in that it covers the costs of operating from a temporary location or at increased cost, rather than simply replacing lost income.

When This Matters

After a fire damages your office, you rent temporary space and expedite equipment replacement at a premium. Extra expense coverage pays these added costs.
